Recently, I have had the overwhelming urge to photograph people, people on the street. Sigh. Yes, in Montreal to boot. A whole bunch of issues come to the surface, like “will I go to jail?” or “will I have to mortgage the house to pay for my lawyers?” The inherent fear we have in photographing strangers is only augmented a zillion-fold with our supreme court law up here, known as “l’arrêt Duclos“.

“..Quebec is the only place in North America where photographers are required to get permission from the subjects of photographs that will be presented to the public. The only situations where such a permission is not mandatory is when the photo is of a crowd, if it’s considered legitimate news or considered to be in the public interest.“

Le site que j’ai découvert cette semaine devrait faire le bonheur de plusieurs de nos photographes “explorateurs ubains” en herbe (une certaine usine vient en tête!) Ceux-ci en particulier sont “hard core” et le résultat photo est probant.
